KonStart: the best start

Today we’d like to tell you about an extraordinary project called “KonStart.” It’s a recipe for academic success at universities and colleges, which took place between October 2 and 6. In short: it was fantastic!

Behind the scenes of KonStart

This project was initiated by Berit Betheke, head of the Central Student Advisory Service at the University of Konstanz. And I, with seven years of passion for this initiative under my belt, can assure you: our goal was clearly defined – to hand first-generation students the key to success at universities and colleges.

Why “KonStart”? Because the beginning of university studies is often a jungle of uncertainty, but we were here to clear the path and make the start easier.

Our goals in focus:

  • Equal opportunities: Everyone should have the same chances of success, regardless of their background. KonStart took action here and paved the way for all.
  • Community and support: A strong community and support system are crucial for academic success. KonStart fostered not only knowledge but also friendships.
  • Better preparation for everyday student life: The transition phase at universities and colleges can be overwhelming. KonStart offered practical skills and resources to make this transition easier.

How did we achieve our goals? A week full of workshops and great activities:

  • Time management: Tips and techniques to organize student life efficiently.
  • Stress management: Strategies to handle stress and maintain mental health.
  • Knowledge management: How to stay on top of study material and optimize learning.
  • Learning techniques: Effective methods to internalize knowledge and succeed in exams.
  • Study organization: Practical guidance on structuring your studies and handling assignments successfully.
  • Campus tour: A deeper insight into the campus to get oriented faster.
  • Library tour: Discover the treasures of the library and how to use them for your studies.
  • Exchange with senior students: Interaction with experienced peers who shared their experiences, tips, and tricks.

In addition to the support from Berit Bethke and myself, KonStart was also actively supported by Nadine Meidert. We also welcomed special guests such as the “Arbeiterkind Association,” who provided valuable insights and inspiration for our first-year students.

Why every university and college needs KonStart

The importance of programs like KonStart cannot be emphasized enough. They are not only a way to promote equal opportunities but also an investment in the future of our society. Every university and college should implement similar initiatives to ensure that all students receive the support and tools they need to study successfully.

Education turns dreams into reality. We are excited to see the unique success stories! 🌟
